Levin Operational Support

The response area for the Levin Operational Support unit is Manakau in the South, to Laws Hill in the East, and to Mitchpine on SH 1 in the North. However if the Brigade is responded further than those boundaries, then the Operational Support Unit also responds to assist the Brigade. Currently the unit responds to all brigade two appliance responses, and any MVC or otherwise when required.
New recruits to the Levin Fire brigade are generally assigned to the Operational Support unit initially. When and if they are suitable, they may move to Firefighter duties. This way they have an appreciation for the Operational Support role once they change over to a Firefighter. The unit is responsible for their own training and have their own training officer who works alongside the operation training officers, and set a weekly training program.
The unit is an integral part of the Levin Fire Brigade. Some of the Operational Support members are also part of the brigade's management committee, form a part of the Firewise programme, and are involved with Fire Safety and Education. The chairperson of the social committee and the brigade treasurer/secretary are also from the Operational Support unit.
