Seddon Operational Support

The Seddon Volunteer Fire Brigade attend upwards of 60-70 calls a year (highest year was 110 calls) - 30% MVA, 40% fires, 15% Medicals, 10% false alarms and 5% other. They have only just started with adding Operational Support in the last 18 months, and have already found them to be vital for their small brigade - which covers between Blenheim and half way to Kaikoura.
The Operational Support members ride the truck if there is room - which is most of the time during the day, or they will follow the truck in a car. Their duties to date have been fighting grass fires, feeders and hydrants, portable pump setup, first aid, getting other equipment set up, and lighting. The Brigade is looking to have some of their Op Support members do additional training, including a pump course and a MVA course.
