New Plymouth Operational Support

The New Plymouth Operational Support Unit has a long and proud history, originally established as the New Plymouth Volunteer Fire Police in 1926, the name was changed in 2011 during the nationwide transition from Fire Police to Operational Support Units.
The volunteer unit is based out of a composite station alongside career firefighters in the heart of New Plymouth. The unit responds to greater alarm fires and motor vehicle collisions following requests for traffic control, they maintain crowd control and scene safety by managing traffic, closing roads, providing lighting and other tasks as required to support the emergency responders on scene.
The unit trains every second Monday in the skills that are carried out on scene and also partakes in collaborative inter-brigade training with other operational support units nearby (Waitara and Inglewood).
