Rotorua Operational Support

The Rotorua Operational Support unit was set up in 2000 after a need was seen to support the Rotorua station Career firefighters. Since then they have grown in numbers and calls and get busier every year. The unit covers the Rotorua Fire District, as well as Ngongotaha and Mamaku as their normal turnout area. They also travel to Taupo, Tokoroa, and Putaruru if required.
The Rotorua Operational Support unit have a Mitsubishi Ultralight as their response vehicle which has light masts and room for equipment and canteen supplies. Additionally, they also have a 7 meter lighting tower trailer that is often used at large incidents and fatal road crashes. Having this additional lighting equipment has opened up their response area hugely which can cover the area from North of Tirau across to Kawerau and nearly to Waiouru for most Fatal crashes that require major lighting to carry out scene investigation and recovery by New Zealand Police.
