Paraparaumu Operational Support

Paraparaumu Operational Support cover a large area spanning the Kapiti Coast (46,000 population and rising) and Mana (7500 population). The unit's members can respond in the vehicle - Paraparaumu 3726, which is well equipped with full lighting, canteen, and command unit equipment, as well as the necessary tools for crowd control, traffic control, and other support operations including salvage and rehabilatation. The unit assists the Paraparaumu Fire Brigade which attends over 500 calls a year and has been called to other areas as they are an area resource. A majority of members are warranted Traffic Management Operatives and one is a Site Traffic Management Specialist. The unit is also on 4 first responses – Paekakariki Hill (a narrow, winding road the subject of many accidents), Centennial Highway, Kapiti Island and Kapiti Coast Airport. The unit responds to about 50 calls a year on average.
